Debbie is an enthusiastic advocate of organic gardening. She began organic gardening with her grandfather in the 1970s. Later, while she chose a different career in the Creative Industries, from the early 1990s she spent lots of free time gardening, studying horticulture and garden design at Kingston Maurward in Dorchester and, ultimately, working with Michael in Dorset and nearby counties.
She is an experienced garden designer and horticulturist. She writes about gardens, the landscape and tutors creative non-fiction and nature writing. Today, Debbie takes on a limited number of garden designs each year. She prefers to hand-draw garden designs, typically to a 1:50 scale, on an old-fashioned drawing board.
As a filmmaker and music producer (jazz, trip hop, ambient…) she is currently working on a garden documentary; and in 2021 working on a garden-based memoir with writer Tim Lott at writing school and community The Novelry headed up by Louise Dean.
